Digital Technology Essay

Explain how your skills in the creative use of digital technology developed over time. Refer to a range of examples from your media productions in your answer. 

Throughout the AS and A2 modules I have learnt how to use a lot of different digital technology that I didn't know how to use before. Digital Technologies have been an important part throughout our media experience because everything we did from out AS prelim to our final music video all included digital technologies.  

At the start of year 12 we got assigned a task to recreate a film opening we were all very new to everything and this was our chance to play around and get used to the software premiere. Our preliminary task was Juno and we were put into groups to film the film opening as best as possible. The digital technology we used for this was a camera, blogger, YouTube and premiere. All of these were quite now to use except from YouTube. We knew how to search for things to help us with our media film opening. However, the camera was quite new to us even though we had all used cameras before this one was quite different and we had to work out how to use it. Blogger was also new to us because we hadn't used it that much however it was quite simple to use and got the hang of it very quickly. The last digital technology we had to use was premiere. This was the most difficult one to use because there is so many different effects and transitions that we had to play around to see what worked and what didn't.  

At the end of year 12 we had to make our own film opening. We used all the same digital technologies that we used for our prelim and more. The others we used were prezi's slideshares, twitter, facebook. We used prezi as a presentation idea to help present idea about our film opening so we could show the rest of the class if they agreed with the ideas. We also used it to do our evaluation at the end of year. This made it more exciting for the examiners to read and not get bored. We did this for slideshares as well. This helped us show our ideas to the class and get feedback from them. Other technologies we used were twitter and facebook. We used these to help advertise our film opening. We put teasers on them for our target audience to see and share it with their friends. This made our audience bigger because social media is a place for sharing things quickly so we knew a lot of people would see it once it had been shared. 

At the start of year 13 we got assigned another prelim task to recreate a music video at this stage we all knew what we were doing to an extent and were able to recreate the music video as best as we could. The digital technology we used for this was a camera, YouTube, blogger and premiere. YouTube was the easiest to use because we knew what we were doing from the start however, we did develop in this because we found out how to search for things quicker and were able to upload our own videos to our own channels. We used the same camera in our music video and film opening so we knew how to use it and could improve the shot quality. We used blogger to upload everything we did toward the prelim onto our blogs to make used we had all our research tasks and planning done and uploaded. We quickly learnt ho use blogger to its fullest by changing the themes and the backgrounds and messing around with the setting to get it how we anted it to look. 

At the end of year 13 we were assigned to make our own music video. The digital technology we used to make this was the same as what we used in year 12 and the start of year 13. In our music video we used a different camera to make he editing look better and have a clearer picture, because of this we all had to learn how to use the new camera so we didn't mess up the filming. The most important part of the technology we used in our film opening was powerpoint as this is what we made our digipak on and wix which is what we made our website on. We knew how to use powerpoint well enough to make a really good digipak that used a lot of synergy to link it with our music video. However wix was very new to us and we hadn't used it properly before. The website was quite difficult to make so we spent several hours on it to make it look professional. We used Jason Derulo and Macklemore's websites to help create our. We used different bits from each of them this is how we knew we had made it look professional. 

In conclusion over these two years of media I have learnt many different digital technologies and have improved a lot over the years. This is because we had to use most of them everyday to make our film openings and music videos.
